The ABCs of the Podcast Legal 123s with ByrdAdatto

September 30, 2020

Its Inception, Season One Overview, and What’s to Come

Although the podcast Legal 123s with ByrdAdatto premiered in the midst of a global pandemic, it had been in conception for years prior. Hosted by founding partners of ByrdAdatto and friends Michael Byrd and Brad Adatto, the passion project seamlessly mixes their innate banter with legal expertise.

Born out of the duo’s success with public speaking engagements, the podcast began at a time when fortuitously they could no longer travel and speak in front of large audiences. The two were eager to continue sharing their knowledge about all things legal, in a way that even the most novice listener could understand.

Premiering a Podcast

“Early on in our speaking engagement career Brad and I realized we were more effective together,” Michael said. “Our story was more powerful when we brought our unique experiences and used our authentic relationship to play off one another at the podium.”

In the first podcast entitled “Our Story” Brad notes, “Education is so strong to who we are -through the podcast, we want to keep educating and training, especially in healthcare where there can be gaps for companies to run compliantly.”

With an entrepreneurial spirit, the pair have continued to break boundaries creating creative spaces for legal learnings and engagement. The podcast is one of many thought leadership platforms, all of which highlight ByrdAdatto’s commitment to education.

“We built Legal 123s around the importance of storytelling,” Michael said. “What we do for a living is complicated. Through the podcast, we are able to connect with our audience to illustrate legal issues in a digestible way.”

Storytelling and the intimate engagement it offers listeners has been the foundation for the podcast, and will continue to be as the series expands.

“We wanted to do this the right way,” Brad said. “We spent a lot of time researching what podcasts and legal resources currently exist. Throughout this process, we continued to evaluate who we are and what we wanted this podcast to represent.”

Evolution of Storytelling

Highlighting internal experiences was the foundation for “Thinking Inside the Box,” the first season of Legal 123s with ByrdAdatto. Throughout season one, which ran from May 27, 2020 to September 23, 2020, Michael, Brad and other partners of ByrdAdatto appeared as guests to reflect on their personal learnings. It was shaped by poignant experiences on topics ranging from compliance issues, business mishaps, and employee engagement.

While season one was all about looking inside, season two – set to premier on October 7, 2020 – focuses on outside influences. “Thinking Outside the Box” dives into stories from clients and colleagues. It takes an expansive look on the business of healthcare by bringing external influences to share obstacles faced, creative solutions, strategic planning, and how to navigate the “new normal” of COVID-19.

As the podcast evolves, Michael and Brad continue to focus on the foundation of its initial concept – education through storytelling.

“We have learned a lot about our podcast in this short window.  From recording our first episode podcast twice due to technical difficulty, to starting season two, it feels like we are developing a rhythm,” Michael said. “It has truly been a learning experience on how to give a presentation in a different format.”

Brad recalls how this project began: “We thought of this concept just two years ago, and we wanted to remain authentic as to how the two of us interact.  I’m glad we were able to capture our bantering in the podcast.”

Michael and Brad are excited how Legal 123s with ByrdAdatto has progressed, as well as the unique learning experience it offers them, their team, and audience. You can listen to Season One of the Legal 123s with ByrdAdatto on Spotify, Apple Podcast, and on other platforms.
